I. Transportation to Moc Chau from Hanoi
If traveling from Hanoi, you can choose to ride a motorbike or take a passenger car. Along the way, you can have the chance to contemplate and enjoy countless majestic views of the Northwest mountains.

1. Riding a motorbike

You would follow Thang Long Avenue, turn left to Xuan Mai along Highway 6 to Hoa Binh. Near the center of Hoa Binh, there is a road sign up to Son La. Follow up the Cun slope, and go straight along Highway 6 to Cao Phong, and from here, just go straight on the road. On the way, you will have to go through Thung Khe, which is an amazing point so you could stop for a while to take photos. This is a beautiful place not to be missed on the way to Moc Chau.

 2. Take a passenger car

Take a bus at My Dinh Bus Station, the car runs regularly and continuously from 9am to 10pm. Ticket price is from 120k - 150k/person. Prestigious travelling service providers you can refer to such as Hai Nam, Ket Doan, Ngoc Thuan, Tuan Hien ...

II. When should you travel to Moc Chau?

Each season, Moc Chau wears a different appearance. It can be pictures of emerald green pastures stretching endlessly to the horizens, sometimes it is the pink color of peach blossoms, or panels in white pristine lively plum flowers., etc. Before the festival and after Lunar New Year (late January, early February of the solar calendar): peach blossoms and white plum blossoms blooming in every corner of Moc Chau.

March is the time when the Northwest mountain ebony flowers bloom and whiten the entire forests of Moc Chau. Around March 26, there is Het Cha festival.

Around October to February: white mustard flowers and wild sunflower bloom. In mid-November is the time of full bloom of white mustard flowers, wild yellow anemones, iridescent flowers mixed with the red of poinsettias on Moc Chau.

Around April to August of the solar calendar: Moc Chau's climate is far much cooler than Hanoi. Actually, there are no flowers but there are plums and peaches for you to pick (the harvest time is in April to June).

In the beginning of September, there is Vietname Independence Day, attracting Mong ethnic minority people inside and outside the country to come back to attend.

1. Ngu Dong Ban On (Ngu cave in the On commune)

To get to Ngu Dong Ban On Street, visitors can go by many different means of transport, following the caravan or going by motorbike. But in any way, go to Moc Chau junction, turning right to the direction of the farm, and continuing going for 7 km when you see the signposts directing the way to Ngu Dong Ban On.

Dai Yem waterfall is most beautiful in April to September every year because at this time, there will be a tremendous amount of water pouring in, making the whole 70m wide waterfall look like a white water curtain. 4. Heart-shaped green tea hill

The way to this hill (about 15km northeast from Moc Chau town center): from the town, follow To Hieu street and Le Thanh Nghi street - cross the market km 70 then turn left along the provincial road 104 - Go through Moc Chau Farm Town People's Committee about 4km, then turn right about 1km to Heart Tea Hill (located on the road to Ngu Dong Ban On, and there are signs at this junction). Heart-shaped tea hill represents strong vitality and eternal love, skillfully created by farmers and has become an impressive destination for visitors from near and far.

5. Pha Luong Peak

Pha Luong mountain is about 30km from Moc Chau, located between the border of Vietnam and Laos. Although only at an altitude of nearly 2,000m, it is a challenging mountain, requiring endurance and courage for anyone who wants to conquer it because the journey to the border post and the gathering point to start climbing is a real challenge. At the same time, the path to the top of the mountain is very steep, different from other peaks in the north. Therefore, the process of climbing to the top takes 3-4 hours. Conquering Mount Pha Luong, you will be immersed in the sea of fanciful clouds, breathing the wind and fantastic air at an altitude of over 2000m.

6. Hang ma Suoi Bang (The ghost cave & Bang stream) 

From the center of Moc Chau, to Suoi Bang, you should follow the road with beautiful views on both sides of the road. You can ride a motorbike through To Mua village, which is full of tea fields and ravishing slopes to the center of the village, where there are about 80 ghost caves, each cave keeping from 1 to 35 coffins. Coming to the ghost cave after Bang stream, visitors will hear about the original story of these ghost caves that it was found that the corpses in coffins were of cannibal tribes.

1. Buffalo meat hung in the kitchen

Kitchen buffalo meat is a specialty of Thai people in Moc Chau. In doing so, people cut the fibers into pieces and cut them along with the texture, then smoke with the smoke of charcoal from the rocky mountains. On the outside, it is dark brown, while inside, it has a natural pink color - characteristic of Son La's hung buffalo meat. When chewing, eaters can enjoy the sweetness of meat, mingling with the special smell of mountain wood smoke and the pungency of mountainous pepper. Eating roasted buffalo meat, we can feel the sweet aroma of buffalo meat, the faint smell of the mountains, the richness in the combination of impregnated spices such as lemongrass, chili, garlic, or pepper. Young veal meat which has lean, fat and skin is selected, thinly sliced, blanched over boiling water before marinated with spices including ginger, pepper, lemongrass and satay. The dish impresses any guest by the naturally soft and sweet young veal meat simply fried in boiling oil, giving off a fragant smell. You can easily find stalls selling this dish on the highway 6, especially some in Chieng Di sub-area or Moc Chau Farm. Each small portion has a price of 100,000 to 150,000 VND, a large portion for 4 people from 150,000 to 200,000 VND

3. Suoi Bang snail (Snails of Bang stream)

Bang stream snail is a specialty of Moc Chau because of its delicious tast which is different from the ordinary snails. To Moc Chau, you should order Bang stream stone snail with motel or restaurant to enjoy the best fresh snail. Snails are processed in various ways, and the most common is to cook sour soup, make mango salad, or just simpply boiled with lemongrass.

4. Grilled stream fish

Moc Chau stream fish are usually not big, just by human fingers in size and have no fishy smelly taste. There are many ways to process Moc Chau stream fish, including frying, grilling, etc. Fried Moc Chau tream fish is golden, crispy, greasy and aromatic.

5. Moc Chau green mustard

Moc Chau mustard has bitterness but is a favorite dish of many tourists and a definite delicacy of locals. This vegetables are grown in Moc Chau because the cool climate here is suitable for its growth and development. People just  need to water and there are fewer pests and diseases. This special clean vegetable is processed into different dishes such as dipped into hot pot, cooked soup, stir-fried with beef, chicken or simply boiled.

6. Fresh cow's milk


The tremendous Moc Chau steppe is the cradle of pure fresh cow's milk that is enjoyed by people from everywhere. With more than 10,000 Dutch white langur cows producing milk daily, Moc Chau has long been famous for dairy products such as pure milk, pasteurized milk, yogurt, whey, and condensed milk. Do not forget to visit and enjoy the farm or forget to visit the dairy factory here.

7. Baked pork

Coming to Moc Chau, tourists can not help but dig in the scrumptious roasted pork. Pigs are just over ten kilograms of weight, freely grazed, so their meat is firm, not fat. Porks are sliced, prepared into skewers, then grilled, and spiced with the top spices of this mountainous ethnic minorities. Mac khen" is a pungent aroma powder but having gentle taste like an olive and subtle aromatic aroma of the mountain like anise and cinnamon.

8. Five-color sticky rice

Five-color sticky rice is a traditional food of ethnic minorities in many northern mountainous provinces, including Moc Chau. The color of sticky rice has profound spiritual meaning, the five colors of sticky rice (usually red, blue, yellow, brown, white) symbolize the five elements: metal, wood, water, fire and earth. Five-colored glutinous rice is beneficial for human health because people use medicinal plants to create the color of sticky rice.

VI. What to buy as a gift when traveling Moc Chau?

-  Fresh milk, milk candy (all is very cheap and delicious). Remember to buy some Moc Chau milk candy as gifts for your family and friends. And do not miss the opportunity to taste the goat yogurt here.

-  In the summer, you can buy plum and peach of Moc Chau. In particular, peach includes types such as French and cat peach. In addition, there are also cucumber, strawberry, avocado, and dried bamboo shoots.

-  Another specialty is smoked buffalo (or beef). In the cold season, people in highland often kill buffaloes, then cut it in to very large pieces of meat, marinating through spices and hang up in the kitchen on stilts so that the smoke from the oven flying high will make it black and dry. Moc Chau people wiil leave it for about 8-12 months, bring it down, and process the meat like stewing or frying to eat. The price of smoked buffalo meat in Moc Chau is only VND 500k VND/kg while in Dong Van-Ha Giang it is VND 700-800k VND/kg.
