3. What is there in Sung Sot Cave?
Stepping through the cave, visitors will be overwhelmed by the magnificent scenery of this natural architecture. With the total area of over 10,000 square meters, Sung Sot cave is one of the biggest grottos in Ha Long Bay. The authority of Ha Long Bay has created a small pave path from the cave door that extends to the exit while decorating the elegant lampposts on both sides to both guide the visitors and enhance the stunning appearance inside the cave. The deepest point of this chamber a “royal garden” appears with a crystal clear water pond and a fascinating landscape with a range of small mountains.
Sung Sot cave is about 30 meters high, the walls and innumerable cracks and crevices are evidence of millions of years of spectacular natural creation. Close to the exit a mammoth formation stretches from floor to ceiling, tapering at the center to form a concave pillar that appears to be keeping the ceiling in place. Walking through the cave, one’s imagination can run wild because the cave seems to be able to conjure up all kinds of fantastic creatures and fanciful creations.
There are two partitions in Sung Sot cave. The first one is similar to a theater hall with many stalactites hanging from the high ceiling. A narrow passage leads to the second chamber, where a flow of natural light bathes the surfaces. The light is filtering in from above, through a large opening creating a natural skylight. This opening also serves as the exit from the cave.
Furthermore, in the middle of the cave, there are also large stalactite columns connecting the cave dome to the floor of the cave, making the scenery even more glamorous. The cave roof has no cracks, so there is no water dripping. Interestingly, although being such a large cave, when entering the cave, the voice of tourists is not echoed like in other cave but still clear.
The next compartment was equally magnificent with a capacity of thousands of people. In this partition, there are many stalactites created by the magical hands of nature, forming many shapes such as swords, horses, dinosaurs, banyan trees, sea bears ... Some ponds are small and very lovely making the scene more and more gorgeous; besides, stalactites and stalagmites flood inside the cave, which creates an impressively spectacular sight.
Visitors will be immersed to admire the wild beauty of nature and forget the sense of hustle and bustle of the city. Because of such wonderful fanciful scenery, Sung Sot cave is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Ha Long by tourists.
